My Alocasia frydek pushed out a new leaf this week and since it started unfurling one of the other leaves is dropping. This morning I woke up and the new leaf is drooping now too… Ive tried researching why this may be. Some says due to a small root system, some says not enough light (so added a light), some says not enough humidity, etc. Has anyone else dealt with this? This is my first of this type of plant and it originally came with 4 leaves and 2 dropped off too Any help is appreciated!

smaller alocasias will drop leaves as they grow new ones because their root systems can't sustain more or larger leaves. my silver dragon refused to have more than two leaves at a time until nearly a year after i purchased it. we're going on year three and this is her now! there is hope! you just gotta wait it out lol

This aaaaalways happened to me when I had alocasias. You gotta say a prayer that you can keep their delicate root system alive until it gets big enough to support multiple leaves. Or just get larger, older alocasia in the future!

Have dealt with it and researched it. Best logical explanation I found was it’s too much light. I’m assuming them stem is healthy and strong.

My Alocasias like slightly higher humidity. Nothing aggressive. Like 65/70. And they didn’t do well in soil. I switched to fluval stratum and eventually I’ll go to lechuza pon. Once I made those changes, she flourished. You will still lose a leaf here and there but not every time a new one pops out. That used to happen to me too. Now she is gorgeous and produces so many leaves at once.

Also, use a grow light for consistent light. And try to keep the temp at least 65. Once they are happy, they do well. Just gotta find that happy place lol
