Why is my snake plant growing a stalk like this? I know they like to be crowded but is it possibly too crowded?

This is how they grow. If you don’t want them to do this you can move to a smaller pot but this would cause pots to bulge and crack. Best advice is to move to a rectangular planter that is shallow and wide.

I agree. This is just how they grow. I don’t repot my snake plants until they make me (by stretching the pot). Because they’re watered so infrequently and because I don’t have mine in the highest of light, I make sure my snakes are potted in a way that won’t have them rotting in the winter (when it’s likely they’ll only be watered twice in 5 months). Hope that makes sense.
