I just got this baby two days ago from Home Depot and it’s my first Bird of paradise. I am determined to not only have her grow, but thrive! However, I am no expert! Do I need to evaluate the soil? Should any of these leaves be trimmed off? Help!

This looks like it’s being sun burnt/ getting too much sun! Also, plants kind of freak out when they’re in a new environment so before you repot, move to indirect sunlight for 1-2 weeks, make sure you water the correct amount. Try user “PlantyAnns” skewer/chopstick trick where you put the skewer to the bottom for a minute and see if there’s any wet soil when you take it out, then it’s time to water. Personally, I wouldn’t cut any leaves for a week either. Give it a chance to get used to its environment. After that I would cut the ones in this photo off. I think a humidifier would do this plant a lot of justice too since it’s a tropical plant. Best of luck ❤️🧚🏾♀️

So, I put it in the room where our wood stove is so I’m sure the heat is there. We also keep water on the top of the stove and I also have a humidifier running for it. The leaves were like this when I bought it! And it was indoors in the Home Depot where it had zero chance at any sunlight, so of course I couldn’t leave the store without the plant lol!
