Want to see the effects of “root bound?” A $3 special, everything I (briefly) read said to keep this species (or flavor of that species) out of direct sun; it forms webs that show you it has had direct sun. However, the Wal-Mart label said full sun. I have tried a combo, but the plant started shriveling at the base. It was definitely alive and reaching for light. None of that matters if your plant isn’t absorbing water lol. I reckon it had some light drinks over the past few months while it continued to compact into a clod. I gave it a real good soak, softened up the root ball and leveled out the soil. I’m gradually repairing my hasty approaches. I still feel like a bonehead over not understanding concepts such as “don’t use immovable rocks in the pot.” I got the idea of growing sucs on top of porous stones, but that doesn’t work in a four-inch pot. Well, it works to make your roots compact argh. This plant was also a patient of Operation Neem, which I think took a toll on the leaves.

The soil probably became hydrophobic! Usually a result of using peat moss in the mix

Yep. I have spent two weeks undoing it in 20 or so plants, so far. Here is another lol. So many bubbles.

Thanks for that tip on the peat moss. That gives me an answer to “why not peat moss?” If I don’t know the why, I generally mess up haha. I adopted “don’t use Pearlite” not because of the effectiveness per se but to eliminate a million white specks that look like bugs and eggs.
