Hello guys, My polka dot begonia that i bought a couple of weeks ago isn’t doing well. I water it regularly, and it's next to the window. But it has been freezing in Vancouver around -10 lately, so my house temp is around 21 and maybe even colder next to the window, and it’s been really gloomy. The leaves are getting dry, and they’re losing their colours. Is there a way I can save this plant? What should I do? Thank you!

I’m not totally sure, but you might have too much light exposure. Plants curl their leaves upwards to block light from hitting the top of their leaves when they’re overexposed. Your leaves are taco’ing the way they would from too much light. That might be from something else but if it is catching direct sun for any amount of time it might be an issue

Actually I’m looking and they’re even folding away from the window(light source) they don’t want direct sun they much rather live in shade

I actually did not know this was a thing, makes sense, I will keep an eye on how it reacts and change its location according to that maybe.. Thank you!

Yes - I think moving it away from the cold window would be helpful. Begonias are humid loving plants!!

I would say it’s probably the cold and light. Not sure about you but in Ontario we have had a total of 5 days of actual sunlight since the beginning of December so I get why you want to keep it close to a light source. Maybe invest in a plant light? That way the light it gets is more consistent and you won’t need to keep it in the window close to the cold glass. I agree with Evil Plant Dad that Begonias don’t like direct light so if you are getting more than my province then that could also be part of the problem.

I see.. Yeah, the winter was mild this year (until it turned cold last week) so we had more sunny days than usual. I’ll get a grow light if it doesn’t die on me soon lol.
