We were gone for 5 weeks and had no one to look after our plants. Several of my plants have suffered and I don’t know what to do (I’ll post them separately for easier reference) This is how I found my Ctenanthe setosa. Can it still be saved? Or should I let it go.

I’d try to water them all and just see what happens. Maybe some will come back!?

Post a request for recommendations on how to help your plants survive on their own the next you are going out of town. There are a few suggestions that can increase the survival chances if you have no one to weekly check on the plants.

This! It seems like a lot of the plants that suffered were ones that need constant moisture. It may seem impossible to keep them thriving over long trips, but there are absolutely ways to keep them healthy.

Some things you can do is create a terrarium environment around the plants with clear or opaque plastic. Water the plants well. Use small bags to cover the plant and tuck the open ends under the pot. Be sure the plastic is not sitting on the leaves (prevent rot) by using chopsticks, bamboo skewers or other device. Make a frame out of bamboo plant stakes for larger plants like palms and monstera. Use large clear or opaque trash/leaf bags, plastic drop cloths, etc., to cover the bamboo frame. Tuck or tape the open ends to create a makeshift terrarium environment that circulates the moisture inside. I’ve used these methods to keep my plants alive for almost 4 weeks. Many thrived because the humidity increased in the enclosure. 🍀🪴

I agree this one seems too far gone to be worth the effort of propagating or trying to save. Personally, I would compost this one and move on, but you could try propagating as well since it doesn’t hurt.
