Hi all, looking for some advice. I have these two chilli plants. One appears to be developing something like chillis but I’m wondering why some of the lower leaves have white bumps/discolouration/brown marks. They don’t appear to be rootbound and I’m careful about watering - I don’t water until the leaves go droopy. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks in advance!💚🪴

This really looks like pest damage. If you’re waiting until the leaves droop then the plant is stressed and is susceptible to pests. I’m thinking spider mites but they’re impossible to diagnose from a photo.

Thanks so much! I actually wondered if it might be scale but I had that on a plant a long time ago and it’s not the same. The white bumps are more like milk spots on a baby’s skin - but they feel sandy/ like salt crystals to touch, and don’t come off even when you gently scrape the leaf, like powdery mildew/scale/spider mites would. I’ve never seen anything like it, which is baffling me! I’ve found a pic on the internet that looks like mine but higher quality

Could be the plant expelling excess salts/minerals absorbed from the soil, water or fertilizer. Use rain water or similar if tap water is hard.

Thanks Sunny, our water is incredibly hard (got to love London!) and your examples look identical, so I will definitely switch to rainwater thank you!
