Hi I have a problem. I So I loveeeee alocacia they are so pretty and I recently got a Polly one and I repotted it when I brought it home it did good for about two weeks and then decided to literally poop itself. Dropping leaf after leave very dropped and seeming like it has no water. And I try really hard not to over water or underwater but maybe ? I don’t know. I just on a whim was like let me give it a tug mahbe no roots? And it had no roots at allllll And I am beyond shook I repotted it and I am really hoping it can be ok? It had roots that filled out a 8 inch pot to none in less than a month I don’t know what I did wrong. :( if there’s any ideas I’m all ears. Maybe the soil just wasn’t well draining enough for how big the pot was? But it has so much roots idk. This is it now I cut off 90% of its leaves just left two that looked like they might survive but I’m worried they won’t get any water before they die because it has no roots. Tips appreciated thank you in advance ā£ļø The alocacia behind it came from the same pot and seems to be doing great but it was smaller so I put it in a much smaller pot I’m thinking g that maybe I just rushed putting it in a pot too big? Or maybe it had roots too unhealthy already and I didn’t notice. Idk lol just looking for ideas for what I can do better from this point (Also side note I completely dropped it and spilled plants immediately after taking that photo 😭 I am crying)

Pot seems fine, could just be transplant shock, or acclimating to your room conditions (heat, humidity, light ect) also a good rule is to put a wooden chopstick or cocktail stick and if it’s wet and dirt is sticking to it leave it and if it comes up dry then water. Soil could be too dense too, aroids like Alocasia like airy soils a lot of people use soilless alternatives like pon and Leca, and just add fertiliser to the water, others use coco coir with chunky perlite and other stuff to make it more airy, for mine I use coco coir zeolite which is like perlite but higher PH and more chonky some small perlite, worm castings which is like worm poop and then charcoal :)

Also I forgot to mention this but it could be going dormant, where it’ll lose all its leaves and it’ll come back in time, if it does just water it less

Some shops don’t let them root well enough before selling Them. I recently just got one that died within a week, basically no root structure

I just bought one of these myself. I generally repot new plants as soon as I get them but a friend told me to hold off on doing that for the alocasia. My friend said that the roots are very sensitive, in her experience of caring for one. So, I’ve left it alone for now since the one I bought doesn’t look like it needs to be anyway. But I found useful tips through your post what to do when I repot it. Hope your plant comes back and thrives! šŸŖ“ā¤ļø

Thank you ā£ļø I hope yours thrives a lot And yea it makes sense if they have sensitive roots I didn’t really do anything for transplant shock lol But new roots have already started to come in so I just need to hope that water gets to the plant before it died now bwhahah
