hi! i got an umbrella tree two months ago that’s settled in nicely. i recently noticed some black spots on two stems at the very bottom of the plant. not sure if it’s a fungal infection or something else. it was bought at home depot so i don’t know when it was last fertilised but it’s got great lighting and watering. should i cut off the affected stems or repot?? grateful for any advice! thank you!!

That just looks like a bit of edema. It can happen from inconsistent watering. Lots of HD plants are super soggy and overwatered. Do you notice it on any new leaves that have grown since you’ve had it? If not it’s probably older damage. It doesn’t look fungal.

no new leaves but i am starting to see new growths coming from the main stem/trunk. no leaves have dropped off since it’s first week. no browning on the middle or top. the main stem/trunk is very firm.

I think it’s just older damage. You can always do a preventative neem spray down but I think you’re safe.
