Hey y’all! So my friend reached out to me because her tree is having some issues and she wants to know how to revive it. She got this tree from someone about 5 years ago. It was in good health when she got it and has remained that way for the most part until this fall. I tried to get as much info as possible so we can try to figure out what it needs to be revived! ☺️ They were told it’s a banana tree, but we aren’t sure if that’s true. It’s never grown any bananas 😂 So if anyone can confirm or knows what it is, that would be a bonus! When she got the plant, she was told to water with a gallon of water once a week. So she waters it that way and has been since she got it. She said it gets about 5 hours of sunlight each day, not sure if it’s direct or not though. They did move a year ago, and she said it was shocked after the move. But she’d brought it back to good health and then it started looking rough again this fall. It hasn’t been repotted since she’s had it, and we don’t know if/ when the previous owner had done it. She also doesn’t use any sort of fertilizer or anything either. I think it may be getting overwatered, and I think it also needs to be repotted, possibly with a larger pot, and I think it needs more light as well! But I’m also still somewhat new to plants and have never had this one, so I figured I’d ask here and see what you all thought! Any and all help is greatly appreciated, so thanks in advance! 😁

Those plants need a lot of sunlight. It doesn’t look like it’s placed near a window so that could be why she’s lost one of the branches. That’s what happened to mine until I moved it to a south-facing window. And I agree that the other leaves look like they’re not getting enough water.

Yeah, I did tell her she would invest in some grow lights. Since they moved, their new apartment doesn’t have a lot of light coming in. So she said a lot of her plants are looking a little less happy because of that. So she’s going to get some lights, hopefully that will help along with watering more often!
