my pothos is relatively healthy, however I noticed the new growths starting to brown and my soil going white. I read that repotting in winter is a bad idea as the plant can go into shock, but I’m not sure this soil is a health environment for the plant. Any suggestions would be very helpful!

I think it may be a type of fungus or mold I’ve had before. You can scrape off the top layer of soil with a spoon or other tool and see if it improves. I’d agree not to repot it yet but make sure your plant is drying out completely and then some between watering. Wish you the best!

You can repot most house plants anytime because household temperatures are warm enough. The fungus is all the way through the soil. Scraping the top only hides it. Constantly wet or moist organic soil feeds the spores which attract pests like fungus gnats. You can treat with a fungicide. It can return if the soil stays wet. You can also replace with well draining soil, let the soil dry between watering and get good air circulation to discourage fungal growth.
