   Yes overwatering. My Monstera this past summer had a black spot and sometimes direct hot outside light makes the black.

   The soil may be holding too much water. Consider changing it to a mix with better drainage. Coco coir works well to hold moisture and drain before root rot begins.

     And its pretty and smells nice. I use some of that for my pet snakes terrariums. 🐍
