Hi!! Does anyone know what type of bug/fungus is attacking my citrus tree ? (idk exactly which type of citrus it is lol) I have tried to get rid of it with bug k*ller but it doesn’t seem to work. Please leave a comment if you know anything about this, thank you!

That’s scale insects. There are thousands of varieties. This type is armored with a waxy coating. You have to break through the coating. They keep the babies underneath once they seal themselves to the plants like a scab. There are a few liquids to use to get rid of them: 1) Neem oil suffocates them, 2) soapy Dawn dish water can dissolve the waxy coating and later suffocate them, and 3) rubbing alcohol used to wipe down a light infestation is effective. The sticky residue on the leaves is the “honeydew” excretion from the scale. They spread very quickly. Isolate the potted plant. Wash hands and tools. Good luck🍀🪴

I had a lighter infestation than this on my makrut tree, and I had to be super aggressive about treatment. I lopped off all infested leaves/branches (anything with even a hint of stickiness), sprayed it thoroughly with neem oil mix, and then wiped it down with rubbing alcohol. And then I had to do the whole thing again a week later. They are persistent but the tree is fine now. Good luck, I hope you have a better experience than I did!

thank you, I just sprayed neem oil, wiped down leaves with rubbing alcohol and I am going to repeat the treatment if necessary. It’s my sister’s first lemon tree that she grew from a seed and I am determined to save it haha. The tree seems to be fine considering the infestation, it has lots of new growth thankfully.
