Ok so, I've this this Hoya for a bit and she's been repotted a couple times. Not too long ago, she had one new leaf come in (the very top one). The leaves closer to the top feel alive (if that makes sense) and have spots. Meanwhile, the lower leaves feel thin and kinda papery. Why? And what should I do? Also, ignore the dust- I need to give my plants a dusting- I just keep putting it off...

I suspect the roots are dying. Hoya like to be in a mixture of medium similar to where they grow in crooks of trees. So whatever falls in those crooks like chunky bark, dead leaves etc. So very little actual soil. It appears your pot has quite a bit of actual soil so the roots would stay wet too long and suffocate. Also a crook of a tree is usually small so the pot needs to be about a 1/3 of the size you have. You may need to cut the roots to get rid of all the dead ones and reroot it before potting it up again. If it reroots the papery thin leaves potentially could plump up again.

Thank you so much! I do have a drainage system in there. The healthy leaves grow on the same stem as the thin ones, but they all seem to be on the same one for the most part. What type of soil do you recommend for her?

Your welcome. I would start with trying orchid potting mix or an aroid potting mix. If you decide to cut the roots off and reroot you can do it in water or in perlite with a water tray.

All good advice! Cherry knows hoyas!😁 Most of the hoyas I bought come in a chunky mix of coconut husks, perlite and blue fertilizer beads. It holds moisture and is never soggy. It dries out completely between watering for most of my hoyas.
