Hello! Does anyone know if this white colouring is normal on a Zebra Plant? The photo with the yellow spot is on a new leaf that’s still unfurling and the yellow is obviously not ideal. I know these plants can be picky so maybe it’s a sign of unhappiness, but I can’t see any signs of pests and it’s putting out its biggest growth at the moment! Thank you!

Sometimes these plants can be a little tricky, but it could be that the water you use could have too many minerals, maybe a tiny tiny Bit of over/under watering, but if you’re worried it might be pests it wouldn’t hurt to wipe the leaves with some neem oil solution every 2-3 weeks. The yellow spot is small enough that you don’t need to worry about it right now, it could just be nothings wrong and it probably bruised itself unfolding that new leaf. Keep an eye to see if any new leaves keep getting yellow spots or if the original yellow spot gets worse, if it does then somethings definitely up but I think your plant is doing good 😊 hope this helps

I’d say spider mites. They’re really hard to see until it’s too late. These calathea with these types of leaves are very prone to them, especially if your air is on the drier side. I agree with the other comment that spraying or wiping with neem oil is a good suggestion. If it is spider mites you’d want to do it like twice a week though

I’m not sure it’s spider mites as there’s absolutely none of the yellowing that you’d expect with spider mites. And the bottom of the leaves look perfect! But nonetheless I’ve taken your advice as a preventative measure and it’s all sprayed up! Thank you for your reply!

Do you mist or shower the leaves? It could be hard water stains then?

I haven’t misted until this week, but that’s not to say the place I got them from hadn’t done so in the past. I’m in very hard water location so it definitely could be something to do with that given how fickle I’ve heard this plant can be. I’ve looked across Reddit too and there’s only a couple who have posted about it and no one really knows why! But the common suggestion seems to be hard water
