Mold seems to be growing on the soil and now on those adventitious roots towards the bottom :( what is the best way to get rid of this?? I have a feeling it’s because this soil stays moist for way too long, which I plan to change out when it’s time for repotting, but help in the meantime would be much appreciated!!

that looks like pure coco coir, terrible for drainage which tropical plants need. if it stays wet long enough to mold, it needs to be changed asap, or rot will be eminent. if there aren’t many roots, place it in water to grow secondary roots, and repot into a well draining soil

Yeah I’ve been meaning to buy some perlite. All good information to know, thank you!

I agree. I’d repot in new soil. My favorite is Molly’s mix

Some mold is okay.. it just happens from water retention.

this looks more like mineral build up from tap water than mold to me

I use bottled distilled water to water my plants though, not tap

Tropical plants do love water. That’s true. But the roots also need air and that mix is super compacted and dense. It’s not airing out/ drying out quick enough. That’s why there’s mold. Amend your mix. If you like using the moss that’s fine but add something to it to loosen it up a bit.

Check the roots to be on the safe side.
