My ponytail plant has white fuzz growing on it. Does anyone know what it is and what caused it and how to get rid of it. Thanks

It takes a while to get rid of. But you need to clean the leaves off. I’ll leave pass on the advice from the girls I follow on Instagram. Rinse off the leave if you can to get as much off as possible. Then quarantine from your other plants and clean the top and bottoms of the leaves with a mixture of Castile Soap, Bonide or Neem oil and water. May want to spray some on the top of the soil too. And then keep spot checking. Apparently rubbing alcohol kills them on contact too. So the one woman said she puts some on a paintbrush when she spot checks. They take a while to get rid of. But they aren’t as contagious as other pests, so that’s good. So if the plant is worth all that work to you, go for it. 😊👍🏻

For mealys I usually spray off as many as I can with water, treat topically with a spray like Grower's Ally or Jacks dead bug brew, then use systemic pest control on the soil. The roots will absorb and kill off any remaining bugs for 6-8 weeks.

Definitely wash those leafs off, since it’s a mealy bug infestation….you can look up ways to get rid of them online. :)

My experience with mealy bugs is rubbing alcohol works great on contact. Use a swab or paper towel soaked in rubbing alcohol to rub down the entire plant. The trick is the beasties hide in crevices. In particularly tight spots that I can’t get to with a swab, I use an eye dropper to spot apply the rubbing alcohol directly to the plant. Just enough to treat the affected area, not so much to soak the plant or soil. TEST BEFORE TREATING THE ENTIRE PLANT. Rubbing alcohol can burn sensitive tissues so be careful. I would also quarantine the plant so that you don’t go from treating one plant to treating ten. Good luck. Mealies are the worst.
