Help! What’s wrong with my pothos??
Help! What’s wrong with my pothos??
Could be a couple things! - Make sure the pot isn’t too big or small! There should be about an inch of room from the root ball to the side wall of the pot - the soil should be well draining. I use a 1:1 ratio of regular potting soil and perlite. - this could also be the result of a poor watering schedule. Maybe over watering? Could be a combo of too much water and soil that doesn’t allow for enough drainage! And don’t be afraid to do a big chop!! Ive cut a pothos down to nothing and it grew back stronger than ever! Cutting off dead or drying sections allows the plant to more efficiently focus on new growth Also a Little tip, pot material can make a huge difference! If you’re in a particularly humid environment, terra-cotta will be your bestie. In a more dry climate, plastic or ceramic pots all the way. I unfortunately don’t have much advice for bugs/pests. I use neem oil weekly on my plants and thankfully haven’t had to deal with pests yet. I hope you’re able to figure it out!

Why is plastic or ceramic best in a dry environment?

Helps retain moisture! Terracotta is very porous, so it’s great at allowing the soil to dry out and not to stay too moist for too long (which is great for avoiding root rot). But in a dryer climate, the soil dries out too fast and you end up having to water more than necessary. Since plastic and ceramic pots are non porous, they retain moisture, which is perfect for regulating soil in those incredibly dry climates (like Colorado! Which is where I’m at, but I started in Texas which is very humid!)
