Hi! What are these white feathery things on my soil? My Kalanchoe succulent started dying recently but I am not sure why.

Does it have a smell? You could spray with hydrogen peroxide solution in case of rot or fungus but roots seem fine.

Clean up, change soil, and clean pot. Hope it works out. 🙏🏼

looks like healthy roots. if anything the soil is probably too dense for this species
2 likesIts roots. You can pull on one and trace it back into the soil. Fungus/mold will rub off. Roots won’t. As already mentioned, the soil looks too heavy/dense which could slow drainage and slow drying out.
2 likesI recommend carefully replacing ALL the spoil with potting mix for succulents which has very good drainage. You will break some roots. Just let them dry out a few hours before watering. Leaving the current water holding soil will continue to degrade the plant. A succulent mix allows drainage as well as oxygen to the root system. A succulent mix keeps sufficient moisture at the root ball without rotting the roots. A terracotta or a ceramic pot (unglazed inside) of similar size or slightly larger than the current container will further help pull excess moisture from the root ball. Allow the soil to party dry out before watering again.
