I was misting my ZZ Plant last night and all these tiny black bugs started appearing the outside of the pot from nowhere. I’ve had this plant for almost a year and it’s been in this pot and the same soil for months. I’ve never had any issues. I did have gnats flying around my plants during the summer and used sticky traps. I feel these may be babies but I’m not sure what these are, please help.

It’s so hard to see but what is the condition of your new growth? Does it look normal or deformed? Also, I would never mist a ZZ! They only need to be watered when their soil is 100% dry…and then some. The sticky traps only kill the adults but the larvae will still exist in the soil. Get some BTI drops. It’s a bacteria that kills the larvae in the soil so the cycle stops. One drop per gallon of water and you can use every single time you water.

The condition of the new growth is healthy as ever! And where do I get the BTI drops? I also have mosquito bits of if that helps any.

So that’s good news! And I take it there aren’t any little webs around?

They look like juvenile fungus gnats. Their larvae stage lives in damp soil that doesn’t dry out. Let the soil dry out before watering.
