Hello!! My queen marbled pothos has somewhat suddenly had a bunch of yellowing leaves- I water irregularly, and have had it for 1year+ and it has been very happy. Any ideas? Thank you!

It’s possibly overwatering leading to excess moisture in the soil that support mold/fungus/fungus gnat larvae that eat the roots. I made that assumption based on the amount of adult gnats on the sticky paper. Additionally, poor drainage within the soil or the pot can add to the problem. I recommend changing out the soil to a well draining mix containing perlite/sand. I blend for my pothos plants a succulent mix with a premium potting mix that are less likely to contain fungus/mold. Larvae live off wet soil. Spray all plants with soapy water or neem oil at least once a week. I’ve never used Mosquito Bits in the soil to kill larvae. But, others use it and it’s recommended online at several agricultural extension services. I don’t need or have used sticky traps. I see one or two gnats a week only after getting a new plant. I aggressively spray every plant in the room if I see a gnat. Water pothos when the soil dries out 1 to 2 inches. Good luck 🍀

I use BTI drops in my water with every watering and have seen no gnats. The BTI drops kill the larvae in the soil so eventually you wouldn’t need the sticky traps which only catch the adults.

What is BTI? I have gnats around some of my plants, and though the plants are doing well, I’d love to get rid of the nasty little suckers.

I have the same issue, and wondering as well!

(Bti is short for Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis.) It contains spores that produce toxins that specifically target and only affect the larvae of the mosquito, blackfly and fungus gnats… Bti has no toxicity to people and is approved for use for pest control in organic farming operations.”
