I’ve had my fiddle leaf fig for about eight months. Sometimes it seems to be doing well, and sometimes, like lately, a bottom leaf will turn yellow and drop off. After reading a few posts here, I checked the roots, but I don’t know enough to know whether this is normal. it looks like there are some whitish maybe mold areas at the bottom of the pot? The roots look healthy but if they are coming out of the bottom, does that mean I should re-pot? It is directly in an east window and I water it once a week. I have sitting in a larger pot on top of that little grate for drainage.

I would repot it if the roots are growing out of the pot a lot. The only thing is, fiddle leaf figs are complete drama queens so will likely have a tantrum afterwards and drop more leaves. But if you water it after you repot it should help a little bit. Also, depending on whereabouts you are it might take longer for it to come back (I’m in the UK so it’s getting colder). If there’s mould it might be due to overwatering since the soil is too wet, same problem if the roots are mushy. Maybe change to every ten days for watering if that’s the case? :)

It needs repoting now if tou want less damage on your plant (i learned it the hard way 🥲)

also, as a dramatic plant, don’t water it if it is not dry. as the seasons change (depending on your location and the plant’s) it may need less water. good luck!
