Took on the enormous task of repotting a bunch of my house plants a month ago…used miracle grow potting soil…now have an infestation of those darn little gnats! Ahhhh! Losing my mind with them. Any suggestions on how to get rid of them? I have those little sticky things I stick in the dirt to catch them when they land on it but it barely makes an impact…

a hydrogen peroxide solution poured over the dirt when it’s time to water will kill all the eggs and larvae in the soil but i recommend fertilizing with a mycorrhizae-enriched fertilizer afterwards since the peroxide will kill anything living in the soil. the sticky traps will take care of the remaining adults. i advise against using miracle gro in the future since it is always full of fungus gnats

If you can get your hands on it, Mosquito bits works great. It’s a biological that attacks and kills mosquito larvae. Works the same on fungus fly larvae.

Personally the miracle grow soil has worked fine for me but just let it dry out in the heat for a while after you get it so all of the pests die. Also make sure you’re not over watering the soil in the future. Diatomaceous earth always works almost instantly for me, but you should isolate the plant as well.
