I need help! I have a tricolor Stromanthe plant my mom got me and it’s dying. It says to water every 7 days but it gets extremely dried out so I’ve had to water it more than that. It’s telling me to fertilize it but I’m not sure what to do. Any help is much appreciated to try to get this thing to survive.

This plants needs high humidity, that should help the leaves from drying out

Mine looks a bit like this after spider mite infestation. Might want to rule that out too.

How do you check for that?

Hi! Is your dirt super compacted?? I recently had a similar problem, when I watered most of it would end up in the tray at the bottom and the plant almost became hydrophobic. Today my friend told me that if you take the plant out of the pot, break off the compacted soil and then rinse the roots, it can be repotted. (I used a bag labeled moisture control soil) And then in the future it’s recommended to airate the soil by poking it with a pencil or chop stick! Again this is just what I did when my soil was compacted but I’m not sure if that’s your problem at all :)

I scared to try to repot it honestly because I repotted it at the end July and I know that can cause trauma for a plant. I did move it to the bathroom now since it has less direct light and I heard with the moisture from the shower etc it helps. We will see if it does anything. Seems to be getting worse 😩

Stromanthe Triostar plants are extremely sensitive imo. It’s definitely been my most dramatic plant 😅 if it’s under watered they usually curl their leaves up which is a good sign they need watered. They are also sensitive to chemicals in tap water so you should make sure you are watering with distilled water or tap water that has been sitting out for a bit. They like to be in indirect bright light or else their leaves can burn and get crispy like they seem to be in your picture. You can also mist them or get a humidifier if you have dry air in your house.
