this is my scindapsus pictus exotica and i have had him since november of last year. this was the plant that started my planty obsession so i have grown very attached. i haven’t changed much in terms of care aside from adding some used coffee grounds from time to time before watering (which i have done for weeks with no issue). recently, i have had some yellowing leaves that was too excessive to be normal that i ended up chopping off. from there the plant grew out two runners and now all the new growth that comes in seems to develop this strange deformed growth pattern. even the older leaves have been developing it too and i can’t seem to get my thriving and healthy plant back. i have checked the leaves for pests and haven’t noticed any webbing either. i would hate to have to chop and prop already but i will if need be. could anyone help me figure this out?? thank youuuu

in my experience (with other aroids, not this species) plants do this when they’re not getting enough water, the leaves tear as they grow. it’s possible your plant is getting too tight in its pot and needs either more frequent watering or more space to grow

i’d say i repotted this plant about two ish months ago but now that i’m looking at the root system ( i have it in a clear nursery pot) and there is a lot of new healthy roots. i believe you on the possible underwatering. now that i think about it i used to water when the top two inches were dry when i first got it, but now i wait till it’s close to fully dry to water. i’ll try out your suggestion and see if that helps. thanks☺️

Do you notice the new leaves getting stuck in the sheaths? If so, she could potentially need a little more humidity in her life. :)

hi! it’s been pretty humid lately where i live in florida but i did put a humidifier right next to my plant. adding that and being a bit more mindful about watering has definitely helped my plant thrive now. thank you for your help my exotica is doing so good now!
