I can’t figure out what’s going on with my Magnolia trees. We planted 2 of them in April and they were doing great. We live in Sacramento, CA so it’s hot and dry all summer. They are on our drip which waters almost every day (too often for the trees but needed for the other plants). Soil is well drained and I don’t believe it stays wet given how hot and dry it is. They look like they’re going to die. Is this just due to the wrong watering schedule or is something else going on?

We were wondering about that. I just hit them with a heavy dose of Miracle Grow (attached to a hose). We’re also going to try deeper longer watering less frequently (will have to do manually). Thank you for the thoughts!

Looks like something(s) are on the leaves. Hard to see. Provide a close up of some of the better and worst leaves and the trunk.

The nursery thought it was under watering. They suggested 5 gallons every three days. When we planted them they were in huge boxes, so he said a simple drop isn’t enough, at least for a few years.

I almost lost my magnolia to the heat and not enough water. Every leaf died but when I started watering more, new growth came.
