Do these prevent or get rid of gnats??

It’s complicated. Growing in only LECA can be difficult to learn but one of the benefits is it eliminates fungus gnats bc there’s no soil for them to populate in

try diatomaceous earth. Had a huge gnat problem and that worked within a day.

How did you use it? Did you just sprinkle a little on the top?

Just lightly cover most of the topsoil of the plant and try not to water it for as long as possible after because water makes it harmless to the pests.

I used a combo of 3% hyrdogren peroxide and water. 1:3 ratio and just used it when watering to kill the larvae, plus a sticky trap to kill the adults. I didn't want to go the route of just starving them out by not watering. didn't damage my devil's ivy and it's actually flourishing now :)

Did you use this once, or every time you watered?

Probably 2-3 times max, but only if I noticed the larvae still crawling around on there. I think for my ivy it took twice for them to all go away

but also yes, only when it was due for watering ☺️

Did you use the mix in place of water? Or put some of the mix on top after watering? Or mix then water? I think I’m overthinking this lol.

I had a horrible infestation. I gave them all the hydrogen peroxide and water treatment to kill the babies and then put gravel or sand on top of all of them so the adults couldn’t get back in. Sticky traps will also capture the remaining adults. I also switched to bottom watering because fungus gnats lay their eggs in the damp soil on the top inch or two.
