Don’t worry about them. Some people don’t understand how to be kind and still get the point across

Kinda looks like a an aloe, maybe climbing. Hard to tell. Regardless, from the description it sounds like a succulent that was overwatered. Again hard to tell. When you get a plant, I find it helpful to do some online research about its care, ie water, humidity, light, soil. Even if I’m not 100% sure about the exact type, most of the time the care requirements will be close enough that I am setup for success. It’s always tough to loose a plant but it does happen. As long as we learn from the experience, it’s not in vain. Good luck growing!

I’m So sorry about your plant. It can be very disheartening to see them end up like this. But every defeat is also part of the learning process. Me and all other fellow experienced plant experts have a countless number of dead plants in our bagage. And in other words a lot of experience that we can use, together with our educations, to share and help others with 😊 As mentioned above this looks like some type of aloe, and it seems like it’s suffered from root rot caused by imbalance with water and/or light. It could’ve been caused by excessive drought and then being overwatered, just overwatering, too compact soil (succulents like this prefers a more gritty soil mix) or lack of light - they prefer a couple of hours with direct sun and should be placed in a window or outdoors. I hope this can help you forward 💚🙏
