I live in an apartment and my air flow and quality is terrible, I cannot keep white mold from growing on my soil after every watering. I’ve tried cinnamon, I’ve used water mixed with a bit of hydrogen peroxide, and I’ve let water sit out for 24 hrs before watering. I use a moisture meter and let my plants (maranta, pothos, Peperomia, snake) get as dry as is recommended and then wait two-three more days before watering bc of my terrible air. I move them near an open window when I can, but I live in Chicago area and can’t do that in the coming winter months. Any advice, what I can buy or do to help with this problem? Any tips appreciated, I love my plants and want to keep them alive and healthy!!

Maybe add a fan to the room to increase air flow. Also water even less frequently, especially if you’re going by what planta says…a lot of times, I can skip until the next time planta says to water. Another thing you can do is increase the air flow/drainage in your soil by adding amendments like perlite, coco chips, charcoal, etc. to make it really airy. I’d do that the next time you repot your plants. The white mold is a sign that the soil is staying wet for too long

You can also spray it with neem oil but I will make sure that the soil is dry before watering again.

Are your plants in terracotta or plastic pots? If they’re in terracotta pots they tend to mold up worse because of the porous surface of the terracotta pots.

I’ve heard that bottom watering can keep mold from growing on the soil because the very top stays dry
