How often are you watering? Whatâre the roots like? Monsteras in my experience prefer to be rootbound so that pot may be too roomy for itâs liking.
2 LikesOnce a week. Roots looked good when planted in dirt. Yes Iâm going to try a smaller pot. Thanks for your help.
0 Likesdef looks like it needs a smaller pot and maybe some more perlite or orchid bark in the soil to give the roots some rooms to breathe!
2 LikesI might just keep it in water or put it in a leca! Since itâs roots are water roots, it would do well in just living in water or a soilless medium. Just make sure to give it fertilizer, but plants can live in water happily!

I donât think that baby is ready. That pot is too big and itâs not strong enough to stand in its own. You should tie it to a chopstick and put it in leca, or put it back into water and wait for a stronger stem and a couple more leaves. And when youâre ready to pot, keep in mind the pot should only be 2-3 inches wider than the stem to avoid overwatering. đ±âš

0 LikesIt may not be fatal. Could be growing pains and stress of transitioning from water to soil. Reporting couldnât hurt. But it takes months to become root bound. So, that is not a quick fix. Do some diagnostics to see if the roots are too dry or too wet between watering. Adjust water and soil mix if you find issues. Then repot a pot that is smaller and still allows the roots to grow a little. I had a monstera for at least 15 years. I thought a hard freeze killed it. I thought it was dead because the entire plant melted over a few days. It was too big to move and had attached aerial roots to everything! I kept watering the pot because pieces of my Callisia repens fell into it and rooted. It came back 4 months after the freeze. Early leaves looked haggard with broken pieces and holes. The latest leaves look great and are already splitting. The picture shows it 1 year ago when it had 3 ft leaves on left. Top picture is the freeze in January. Lower right picture was today, three months after the plant started growing again. Donât give up hope! Thatâs a 14â pot split by the old roots.
