I have had problems with this plant and I’m not sure how to fix it. I don’t want it to die completely but one of the stems is turning brown.

Stems turning brown is a totally normal process for orchids. You can cut it off at the base and it will regrow when its ready. Can take up to a year sometimes. We have one at work that has taken almost 2 years but is finally giving us a new stem. What I’m more curious about is why you needed to cut those 2 leaves off? Orchids don’t really handle that well, and you should try to leave all the leaves on until they come off naturally. If you have been having issues with leaves dying and such, I’d pull it out and check the roots to see whats going on.

Once the flowers fall off I cut the stems way back. Then I just continue to water it like normal. Mine typically grows leaves continuously even after the blooms fall off. I agree, take the orchid out of the bark and check the roots. Cut off any mushy ones then put back into new bark.
