My tradescantia is really sad. I repotted it to a smaller plastic pot because it was in a too big terracotta pot that wasn’t doing it any favours. I’d cut it back and it seemed to be doing well, but now the stems are rotting at the base and coming off. I don’t want to mess with the roots again. Dr. Planta said it was overwatered (because it says that about everything) but I’m skipping waterings because the soil is still moist. Any suggestions?

Rotting at the base isn’t good, and usually can’t be reversed unfortunately :( I definitely would be pulling it out again and removing anything rotten if you REALLY don’t want to chop your plant. Wash off all the soil, spray with a diluted hydrogen peroxide mixture and then try repotting in totally fresh soil. Your best bet, honestly, is to chop it off and propagate the healthy portion of the plants.

Thanks. Looks like a drastic intervention is needed!

You could look at those roots first if you want

I’ve had to chop and prop this plant many times. It grows roots very quickly. It took me so long to get it back to normal bc somewhere I kept messing up. She doing great now.

They like very bright light, which will help it drink water faster.

It’s in the brightest spot in the house. Hopefully some sunny days will help :)

So, I saved the healthy shoots and ditched the rest. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏻
