I have no clue what is wrong with my calathea! It used to be very healthy but one day after giving it some new soil, it’s leaves started curling. The next day, more started curling and becoming yellow, droopy, and crispy. I had watered it the previous day after giving it new soil but it had not done anything. I cut away the yellow and curly leaves in hopes of it getting better; it did not. It continued yellowing and becoming crispy so I moved it to a shadier place, thinking it was getting too much sun. Eventually I moved it back to where it was; about eight feet away from my south facing window. As you can see it has two leaves left but they are both yellowing and getting crispy. Please help!! btw - I am newer to plants as I have just started caring for them in late January.

The problem unfortunately is that it’s a Calathea 😂. They are the epitome of what it means to be a plant drama queen. Any sort of repot or change in its immediate environment and it will act up and definitely let you know. Also try to use R.O or distilled water on your calatheas too! They are very sensitive. Good luck!

Thank you! I just wish I could’ve know this was such a dramatic plant before getting it as my first plant lol

I avoid them. Learned my lesson years ago we were incompatible!😄 Then, a nursery mistakenly included a beautiful one in my order last week! I’ve been giving it the side eye waiting for it to act up after the tap water incident. 😒

i started my plant journey in january too haha 😅 but i’ve learned calatheas are very temperamental and particular about their environments. mine is also not looking too hot now but some things i’ve been told to try are repotting, distilled water for helping the crisps, spraying the leaves for extra humidity. i also bought a tropical plant food to add to the distilled water. also learned that around 6 months they start to become very frail, which would make sense if you got it in january. hope this helps :)

Iagree with the other post... he problem is that's it's a calathea. They look cool, but they are horrendously difficult to keep looking happy. You just have to try different things until you give up and move it to the graveyard... 😉
