Hi :) Im a new Golden Pothos owner and I’ve had this plant about 4 days but after I had bought it I noticed it had many brown shoots. The stems are all firm and not squishy. And I’ve not watered it since I’ve had it. Overall the plant looks healthy but when you examine closer theres a few things I’m worried about. Any ideas of what the problem is and how to fix it would be appreciated :)

Beautiful plant! I’d guess that the shoots are roots? Perhaps if they don’t find somewhere to root they wither away? I’m no expert so hopefully you’ll get some more confident answers!

Those are definitely aerial roots. They grab onto structure to allow the plant a stable foundation to climb. They also can absorb water and nutrients. Not all pothos have them. They may grow looking for water if the roots in the soil are too dry or rotting from being too wet. Too dark rooms could prompt the plant to send out leggy vines and aerial roots in search of light. Cutting them won’t harm the plant. Some plant stores cut them to beautify the plants for sale. I included pics of my older Cebu blue and my new Scindapsus Treubii Moonlight pothos plants. Both have aerial roots. The Cebu needs repotting and are shooting out both aerial and in ground roots. The other plant was unboxed less than a week.
