this is spriggins, kinda got him without knowing what he was but i think he’s a pepperonis nitida. anyways as i’m sure you can see in the picture his leaves are getting eaten by what i think are fungus gnats. how can i get rid of them without having to completely change out the soil ? if there’s any other thoughts about what’s eating the leaves please let me know :)

I haven’t seen any damage before from fungus gnats (I think they just eat decaying stuff on the soil but can also nibble on roots). I’d suspect another insect (maybe even one like a caterpillar when it was at a nursery). If you ever want to see what kind of pests might be attracted to your plant you can find a section about typical pests and diseases for each kind of plant on their info page. You can click the little’i’ link by the plant’s official name. I’m going to go look at that page because I don’t know much about this plant

It’s an adorable plant! I’m sure it’ll work out just fine.

use one part hydrogen peroxide and four parts water on your plant and that should kill both the bugs & the fungus they’re eating!
