Trying to save my birds of paradise. I tried to split. I lost my mom a little over a year ago. She brought this plant back from Hawaii to Kentucky. She kept it alive for years. It was busting out of the planter. I split it, but do not feel like it’s doing the best. Any experts out there on birds of paradise and information is greatly appreciated.

I repotted my Bird of Paradise this Spring and it got root rot, so I repotted again. It’s still struggling and I read somewhere that they can take a few months to recover. Mine is still putting out new leaves but the old ones are very droopy. I try to prune the old ones but not too many at a time. Mine is an indoor plant though. I’d remove any dead leaves at the base of the plant instead of chopping off midway. Make sure it’s got plenty of drainage and don’t let the soil completely dry out.

Do those pot have drainage? W my BOP i will soak it and then let it sit in the water for 20-30 minutes. But then I dump the excess water from the base.
