I believe that is just how this plant grows. Any time I have seen one of these it always seems to grow like that. But I do not own one so take this with a pinch of salt

Thanks! I’ve seen them grow nice and bushy, but I can’t seem to get it right yet with this one. It goes through a happy streak then this starts again 🙃

maybe get some elastic to hold the drooping branches, connect the stand to the elastic to its lightly holding the branch up 🫶

Idk about that the “stems” idk their technical name on this plant but as I was saying the leaves are very brittle sometimes just breathing near it wrong feels like a stem is gonna pop off they are relatively fragile in my experience and my most problematic plant

Thanks! I’m not too worried about the way the stalks are growing, although I would like to learn how to help guide this too so I’ll look into gently staking. It’s the petioles/leaves that are falling off the stalks. Plenty of new growth at the top just can’t keep the lowest leaves. Would love to help this one get bushier.

It could be getting overwatered/has no drainage or has not enough/too much light. Is it near a light source? And how often do you water it/how much does it dry out between watering

I have a moisture gauge and let it pretty much dry out before watering again. It is about 7ft from south facing window in Chicago. I may need to move it a bit closer. It was closer before and definitely unhappy, but could have been unreliable watering or wrong container. Such a difficult plant to keep happy but I’m so attached to it now. Had it about 5 years and it’s looked like near death a few times and I’ve just managed to bring it back. Determined to understand how to help this one thrive.

Hmm well unfortunately it sounds like you have the care all correct, so I’m not sure what the issue is. Maybe check the roots? You could always cut off the lanky stem: new growth will come from the base and you can propagate the top. I’ll find some pictures for reference. Oh and one more idea that goes along with checking the roots. Maybe the pot is too small?

The leaves are puckering a bit so I’m thinking watering is still a problem. Letting it dry out too much maybe? Or drainage isn’t good enough and it’s suffering from one extreme to another. I might need to repot so I can better check water drainage. It’s in a self watering pot - a gift, not my favourite type.
1 LikeI’m convinced that’s just how this plant grows in our homes. I do know they like a lot of light! So maybe try moving it slightly closer to your south window if you can or maybe it would like an east window if you have one
