I just noticed some of my pearls are dead!!…. What do I do? Why did that happen?

that to me looks like overwatering or a substance that was damaging got on the plant. i have a 5ft string of pearls and i water about once a month or whenever the soil is very very dry. a moisture meter is about $12 on amazon and it has helped tremendously with having a proper watering schedule. in my opinion the planta suggested schedule is a little too frequent for string of things

A growing season in winter. Never knew it even existed. Interesting.

maybe her house is really warm? that’s the only thing i can think of bc mine is indoors but definitely slows down over the winter

honestly, i think it’s based off where we live. at least for me it would make sense for somewhere that’s warmer all year round would have a “winter growing season” but if you are somewhere like me in nj that’s not really possible without grow lights and all that

The weird thing is that the first time I ever remember seeing this plant was in a huge concrete planter under the large awning of a business in a concrete jungle kind of location. It was to and from a new job in winter and it was thriving like like waterfalls. Definitely unforgettable after that. It was still thriving through the summer and for years. Probably still.

Okay! Well let me tell you a trick!! Put her in a hanging basket in an east/west window! I tipped my almost like a waterfall in a macrame hanger so every pearl got sun. For that size I would only give it a shot glass of water like every 10 days. Anyway! Mine loves the spot, and I even have 100 degree summers and -30 degree winters and it does not affect the plant. It’s so happy it even blooms flowers every year and I’ve harvested so many feet of propagations off her. Try it! If you want we can message. 🙃

i would not water this plant like that..i would let the soil dry completely in between waterings, you can get a moisture meter or use a wooden skewer and if the dirt sticks to it when you put it in the plant it doesn’t need water yet, but if the soil is hard and dry and no soil sticks to the skewer and it’s not wet, then it wants a big drink of water. then another 2-3-4 week rest period depending on where you are and how quick it dries out. i have in a sw window and i water once a month basically. in the winter maybe less.

It looks overwatered. Remember that strings of things don’t like wet soil. They want a lot of water about once every couple weeks in very sandy/ very well draining soil. I put a vaporizer and space heater in my succulent closet and I only water when I fertilize monthly; it’s the only place they thrive in my house. Also, check for root rot
