Why do my majesty palm’s leaf tips keep turning brown?! No matter what I try, this plant’s leaves keep turning brown and wilting! I have it in medium light, keep the soil moist, didn’t repot it from its nursery pot because I was waiting for it to acclimate but then it started browning immediately. The store planted the root ball too high so the roots at the base of the stems got all dried out - tried to fix by adding new soil on top to cover them. Thought maybe I was over watering but then I let it almost dry out before watering less frequently, still nothing. Pruned the completely brown leaves, still nothing. What’s super puzzling is that it’s still growing new leaves (the light green tall leaf on the left side just unfurled). So is my plant healthy or dying?? :(

not too sure, but it seems like the moisture meter is left in the plant, if so, do not do this!! it corrupts the moisture meter making readings inconclusive

i have the same one and it came with directions to wipe every bit of dirt off after each use and inbetween other plants

I don’t leave it in there! Just put it in for a photo to show the soil’s moisture

imo this is definitely a low humidity issue. try getting a diffuser that has a timer to run it for 12 hours a day when the sun is up and keeping it right next to the plant raised off the ground

I also use a diffuser that I run for 12 hours 😭 but it’s 2 feet away from it and not next to

i would use rainwater or distilled water in the diffuser as well as to water, and try having it right next to the plant

i have mine right here next to my alocasia polly, i make sure the most stream is touching the plant, otherwise i think it’s pretty futile

I haven’t tried that yet! I have noticed that my terracotta planter pots turn all white when I water my plants with the tap water

Ughh Majesty palms. I think they are beautiful, but they are extremely difficult to make happy and are always infested with spider mites. It needs a ton of relative humidity. That's probably you're problem. And as soon as it starts becoming stressed, it will be attacked by spider mites. If you live somewhere humid consider putting it outside.

I had a cat palm before this that was growing so fast and then it got infested with spider mites. Bought this at the same store thinking it was also a cat palm and didn’t notice the tag was different till I was home and then I saw that majesty palms are harder to care for than cats 🥹

I live in florida with high humidity outside (like 70% or more depending on the day), and 80-90 degree weather and my majesty palm LOVES it. I’ve never had an issue with her and keep her in cactus palm soil which this plant seems to love best. Especially because i keep her in a pot thats self watering which my plant has grown thick roots into. I water her about once a week and the results are amazing. She gives me 2-3 new leaves every few days. Idk if this could help you at all as im not sure if you can replicate these conditions but if you can, DO IT!! Its worth it!

P.S i even use chlorinated water that isn’t filtered on her (which i know isn’t preferred but its what i got ) and she has no issues with it whatsoever. I also fertilize like once a year in spring no issues

That’s awesome! Maybe I’ll try the cactus plant soil. Outside in Philly at least in summertime is 80-90 degree and over 70% humidity

“Cactus palm citrus soil” is great! You don’t have to add any amendments either. Just pick it up at Home Depot and your set!
