are gnats harmful to plants at all? I’ve looked into how to get rid of them, but I want to make sure that there isn’t anything else I should be doing like separating my plants.

Fungus gnats are generally not harmful to plants, they're just very annoying. You don't need to seperate your plants but you do need to treat them all preventatively. It usually takes a combo of methods and you have to keep at it or they just come back. I use Bonide granules, yellow sticky traps, mosquito bit tea and nematodes. Not all at once. I use the sticky traps if I'm seeing flies in the air only. I use Bonide granules with repotting and then every two months sprinkled on top of the soil and turned under with a bamboo stick. I use nematodes once a year with watering, and i use the mosquito bit tea when i don't have anything else to use. The good part is that if your treating preventitively for gnats, you probably will never get thrips, mealy bugs, scale or spider mites. I also have an insecticide soap i make that i spray every time i use the granules. I use the granules and the spray on all new plants before i bring them in. I never have bug problems, ever!!

I’ll have to look into those options, thank you!
