hello friends <3 i’m very new to taking care of plants, and i was unaware of how fast my maidenhair fern could deteriorate!!! she was doing so well the first few weeks i had her!!! she was sprouting new fronds like crazy. I misted her leaves twice a day and watered her lightly every other day with cycled deep waters. i forgot to water her for three days, and now her fronds are curling and browning. is this from lack of water or maybe a moisture change? we’ve had the windows open the past two days and there has been a gentle breeze. i checked her roots and there are no signs of rot… so i’m really at a loss. i saw she was declining yesterday and gave her a good soak. she hasn’t seem to have gotten better or worse. any feedback really helps! i wanna keep her alive and thriving ❤️‍🩹❤️

I’m so sorry to hear this. 😢 Maiden hair ferns like to have moist soil, so they shouldn’t dry out between waterings. If you have her by the window, it could lead to more moisture evaporating, and combined with forgetting to water it, she could be unhappy. I’d move her out of the breeze, make sure she’s not getting too much sun, and make sure she gets enough water without overwatering her. Amazon has cheap but very helpful moisture meters you can use to make sure the moisture levels are right. 🤞🏼💚

thank you so much 🥺😭, do you think there’s a chance she’ll be able to bounce back? or should i prune all her fronds and hope for new growth?❤️‍🩹

I would say prune back anything that is dry and crispy. Those parts aren’t coming back

okay good plan❤️ even if the fronds are green there’s no chance they will return healthy?

once it’s crispy, if the rest of the plant is smooth, the crispy parts are dead.

I have a maiden outside on my covered front porch for about 1.5 years now, lots of indirect light and i giver her a splash of distilled water every single day. I learned to do this the hard way at first, and lost about 2/3 of her fronds in beg. She slowly grew new fronds with the new care and i just as slowly cut away the old tattered ones. The super crispy ones are goners tho and aren’t coming back. Just try to hang on to any leaves that have any life in them so she can photosynthesize until she gets new ones. Hard to tell if any still viable. I can’t go away on a va-ca more than one overnight with mine, will only ever skip 1 day of watering. I have her in a old-timey baby stroller, since she is such a high need princess. 😜
