I repotted my elephant ear (mixed alocasia) almost a week ago and 2 out of the 4 leaves are starting to turn yellow. I’m using regular potting mix with added perlite for drainage and aeration. Does anyone know why it’s looking sad? 😔

Could be overwatering or too little sunlight!

I had it under a plant halo, because it was in my office with little to no light, and the planter is new and is a self watering one (draws water from the bottom). I’ll try moving it to a sunnier spot and adding a bit more water. Hopefully that produces good results. Thank you! 🙂

I always lose leaves when I repot. I hate it. As I'm repotting I'm talking to the plant--mommy had to do this because your soil is depleted and basically dust. I'm doing this for you so you can be happy. This is an upgrade. Please don't get upset! Sometimes my pep talk works, and sometimes it falls on deaf elephant ears (see what I did there?🤭). My guess is that's it's related to the shock of repotting. The plant is throwing a tantrum. Even if you lose a leaf or two it will settle and be ok. You'll have plenty of new leaves when the plant realizes how nice it's new home is. 🤞🤞

Haha i love that! Words of encouragement and resiliency for the little plant ❤️ Oh, i didnt think about that. You’re most likely right...I read that a bit of sugar in the water will help alleviate the shock, but i’m hesitant to try because i don't want to attract bugs. I did however notice a new bud that may unfold soon 🌱. Here’s to hoping the tantrum is over 🤞🏽. I appreciate the insight! ☺️ TY
