HELP PLEASE!!! Does anyone know why my Bonsai Tree’s soil is shrinking in the pot? I thought that it was an overwatering problem, but I haven’t watered if for at least 2 weeks. What’s the problem? What should I do?

Should I feed my Bonsai with plant food? And should the soil have returned back to the pot size like normal? Or will that take a few days?

The only reason I’m not soaking it in plant in water like you suggested Mara is because the plant didn’t come with the original pot, it was taken out of its original pot and put into the ceramic pot… with only one drainage hole at the bottom. So that’s why I’m watering it from the bottom.

So these are what I use along with a diluted Jack’s Classic all purpose fertilizer which I can’t find right now. I use them because they work well for me and are suitable for many of my plants. I try to be practical. And of course you can choose a fertilizer specific to bonsai that would work great. As far as the soil is concerned, you should be fine. I would just keep an eye to make sure the soil has not become hydrophobic.

Oh I just saw your picture and for some reason, I don’t even get notifications till much later after you’ve posted. Anyway, do you have a large tote or Tupperware? You need to soak the entire pot until you see no bubbles rising.

I was originally going to do that, but there is only a drainage hole at the bottom… so I am confused how that would work any better… bc the water is only getting through from the bottom
