Hello and HELP! My alocasia Polly has lost 5 leaves in the past 2 weeks by the stems drooping and leaves turning yellow. Now…it has droopy stems and they look I’m guessing dehydrated. One of them looks this way so I watered the plant when the soil was dry (since I know they prefer more dry soil) and then even after watering the stem in the back began drooping with the same stem issue. Help… 😭😭😭 3rd photos shows that it’s about 3 feet from south facing window and a humidifier 2 feet away…

Alocasias actually like damp soil, I never let the soil dry out completely. I’m guessing it’s due to underwatering if the stems are dry and limp.

Ooo really? I’ve been told that they like the be dried out and not wet! 😅

But I’ll try keeping it more moist!

They don’t necessarily like “wet” soil but I just make sure the soil is damp throughout! They definitely stay more on the moist side.

I go by if the top inch is dry all the way around container, then it's time to water, but not overwatering! 🙂

Overall your Alocasia appears healthy? I've heard that they'll lose a leaf when pushing out a new one! Looks like maybe a new leaf coming up? I could be seeing it wrong ... otherwise, I don't let mine stay too wet, or too dry and as much INDIRECT sunlight as possible!! Good luck!

Check the roots. Is there mesh netting from when you bought if? If so, pull it off and repot.

Came here to say that!! This is what happened to mine, but noticed it too late and none of the roots were healthy anymore so I had to toss them 🥺😭

Hi! Yes other than the drooping it appears to be healthy! That new leaf has been there since I bought it.

I repotted it once I brought it home and there wasn’t any mesh netting thank goodness

This is partly due to the fact that a new leave is growing form the ant. Leaves fall, or plant becomes weak when trying to produce a new plant/sprout/pup… don’t worry too much, is should recover. A quick hack for this is… once you find the new leave growing, gently remove it and it’s roots from the soil and the mother plant. Then, repot it and start growing another one!
