Has anyone had this issue with the bottom of their hydrangea stems turning brown? I assume it’s some sort of fungus and tried neem oil. It has been uncharacteristically rainy. Any other suggestions welcome from more experienced gardeners!

Hard to tell from photos, but they are woody plants, so the stems will look like twigs. Maybe over watering? Does the soil drain well? Are they in a shady area?
0 Me gustaThanks for your reply! I dug a pretty deep hole for the potting soil, as the natural soil here is pretty dry. They get quite a bit of sun but we’ve been in a very rainy period here in CO so they’ve been overwatered in that sense! The part you can’t see is all of the dead leaves I’ve removed that are brown at the edges. The flowery buds are also browning. I’m hoping with a sunny stretch of normal weather I’ll see improvement but any tips are welcome! My neighbors seem to have abundant healthy Hydrangeas so maybe I’ll have better luck in season 2? (Just planted a month ago!)

Was this a blooming hydrangea from a garden center that was sold inside? There’s a difference between florist hydrangea and hydrangea shrubs. This looks like florist to me.
0 Me gustaThanks for your reply! I got this from fast growing trees website, it is supposed to be an Annabelle Hydrangea

Thanks for the info. Did you use any sort of root starter after transplanting? I would also swap out neem to copper fungicide if you think it’s fungal - neem can burn heavily in the summer.
1 me gustaThank you! I have some so I will!
0 Me gustaIf they are getting afternoon sun, they’re in a bad spot.
1 me gustaThank you - they are!
0 Me gustaLeaves turning brown means too much sun
0 Me gustaAlso it’s very dry out there, so you will need to water daily
