Gnats. Gnats. And more gnats. My spider and pothos plants are unhappy. Tried Neem oil, repotting, putting some wine and Dawn in a small dish covered with plastic wrap near them to trap the gnats (pictured near pothos). What am I missing?

You should try using water and peroxide (this kills the eggs in the soil), use a 1 to 4 ratio and use a spray bottle. I’ve been having this problem as well and a sticky trap and this spray has been working great.

I had trouble with them for a while. Sticky traps helped but what finally did the trick for getting rid of them completely was using peroxide and water.

Instead of watering from the top try to fill a saucer with water and let the soil soak up the water so the surface stays dry and the fungus gnats stop coming

So the dish soap and wine (you can also use vinegar) might help trap the adults, but there will still be eggs and larva hatching and proliferating in the soil. Outside of peroxide and reporting as treatment, I use mosquito bits in the soil of my moisture-loving plants basically make a mosquito dunk tea that I use to water my plants as a preventative. Also no idea systemic granules are super helpful in preventing general pest infestations with gnats, thrips, mealy bugs etc :)

I use a product called Knock out Gnats from Gardens Alive. Also Mosquito Bits. You can kill the larva with these solutions, but not the adults or the eggs, so you need to treat the soil a couple of times over a period of about 6-8 weeks. Yellow sticky traps will capture the adults. Often times the gnats are in the soul that we buy and repot them into so be careful repotting. Isolate the plants with the infestations from your other plants.

2 years post, but a tip a hydroponic expert friend of mine mentioned in passing a while back was to replace the top layer of soil with perlite
