My friend has this plant and after like a month it has gone from looking really good to half dead. It was under watered for a little but now it’s being watered the right amount but it’s still dying. Any tips on how to save it?

calatheas are the devil

Are you watering the calathea with distilled or filtered or rain water? They are sensitive to lime in tap water, and eventually if watered with tap, the lime and minerals will build up around the roots, leading to the plant showing symptoms of being underwatered because even though you are watering appropriately, the roots are so caked with these minerals that they can’t absorb it, so they will seem dehydrated. Also may need a grow light. Lack of light can weaken your plants roots, Weak roots can’t drink up the water.

The browsing at the tips and edges in the first photo reminds me of under watering (potentially due to weak roots or lime buildup mentioned in a previous comment) or potentially what calatheas sometimes do when they are in air that is too dry. Low humidity can sometimes mimic under watering. Increasing humidity may help, and make sure to move it away from any heaters or vents. I agree, I’ve only ever watered my calatheas with distilled water and they are so happy with it. If you do everything you can to water it correctly and give it sufficient light, I’d look into increasing the plants humidity with a humidifier, pebble tray, or grouping it with other plants. Misting it won’t hurt either.
