(fair warning- I am a new and inexperienced plant owner) My moon cactus is fairly new, but seems to be mushy and have some brown/black spots on the top. It is losing its color too. I have been watering it about every 2 weeks. I have not re-potted it, and the pot does have drainage holes. Is there anything I can do to save it?

Make sure it’s getting enough light!

It’s rust. Cover every inch of the plant in hydrogen peroxide. That’s all you can do. Also there is no such thing as a moon cactus. This is a bright cactus that cannot produce chlorophyll grafted to a dragon fruit cactus. Alone the orange cactus would not be able to survive because it does not have the critical chlorophyll needed to produce its own energy and replicate and grow etc. The only thing that would potentially grow is your green friend that he is grafted to.

but it’s called a moon cactus, and the care needs are the same. also, it could be underwatering as well. the soil looks hard and hydrophobic, and it almost looks like it’s shrivelling.

Thank you! It’s lost a lot more color than yesterday, but I made sure to put him in a bright spot and give him more water. I tried the hydrogen peroxide… fingers crossed!
