Y’all, I could use some help. I started watering my Meyer lemon tree according to Planta’s guidance - which was often - and her leaves turned yellow and dropped. Now she’s flowering aggressively with barely any leaves. Advice on how to proceed? Thank you! 😭

I also have found Planta’s watering schedule to be too aggressive. It’s still helpful for the reminders and keeping track of things, but I’d definitely recommend always checking the soil with your finger first. Two other methods I’ve been using lately that have helped my plants, aerating the soil with a chopstick or skewer, and bottom watering

I think it’s pretty hard to get the water recommendations right to be fair. It all depends on your conditions. Is it indoor or outdoors? Is it cool or warm? Is your soil well draining or moisture retaining? Checking the soil, as others shared, is the best way to know if it’s ready for a water. Buy a cheap moisture meter from Amazon, it can be super helpful!

I always check the soil first! I agree, Planta’s very aggressive with the watering thing. I either use my finger or a chopstick like Penny 👆🏽. If I followed (my now returned moisture meter) all of my plants would be dead due to overwatering! 🤦🏽‍♀️

I completely agree with all the above. Planta is a fantastic tool but it cannot replace your observation and intuition. With regard to the aggressive flowering and few leaves, I would remove the flowers. The tree expends a ton of energy to flower with little return. You want it to focus on photosynthesis and leaf production. If you can, get it outside in full sun (don’t forget to harden it off). My citrus sulk when they are inside.
