Recently got a black velvet alocasia and it looks a bit droopy. Should I be concerned for this plant? -One leaf is turning yellow, but it looks like it’s trying to grow another leaf. From what I’ve seen, that should be normal. -It doesn’t smell bad, so I don’t think there’re root rot, but should I check just in case? Thanks for the help!!

I have an alocasia that droops when it’s not getting enough light from the top. Also these only get 3 leaves at the time so once u see one start to come out one of the leaves will start to whiter. U can also put sticks to hold the leaves up, I do that. Keep an eye on the watering as well. They r very dramatic about being is moist soil too long. I check mine every day to see how fast they r drying.

If you just bought it, it could be acclimating to its new home. Some of my alocasias did that when I first got them. Like Gabby said, it’s also an indicator that it may need more sunlight. Alocasias love all the indirect light they can get!
